Boykos and Hutsuls: Who do the residents of Bolekhiv, as well as Dolyna and Rozhniativ districts of Ivano-Frankivsk region, consider themselves to be?

The majority of residents in the city of Bolekhiv, as well as the Dolyna and Rozhniativ districts of the Ivano-Frankivsk region, consider themselves to be representatives of the Boyko ethnocultural group.

This was revealed by a survey conducted by the SmartPoll sociological group in November 2018.

Thus, 74% of the residents of the Bolekhiv City Council, 60% of the residents of the Dolyna district, and 53% of the residents of the Rozhniativ district consider themselves Boykos.

6% of the residents of the Rozhniativ district and 3% of the residents of the Dolyna district identified themselves as Hutsuls. Another 2% of the residents in each of these districts identify as Lemkos.

As a reminder, Boykos are an ethnographic group of Ukrainians living in the mountainous areas of the Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, and Zakarpattia regions.

The survey was conducted in November 2018. A total of 850 residents of these territories aged 18 and older were interviewed. The statistical margin of error does not exceed 2.5%.
